A few months back, the Tennessee Titans traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a conditional draft pick. During his time in Tennessee, Hopkins faced a mix of challenges and successes over less than two full seasons. However, this Sunday marks a significant milestone as Hopkins prepares to play in his first Super Bowl.
As the highly anticipated kickoff approached, players and coaches from the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles began arriving at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon. Among them, Hopkins stood out with an impressive pregame outfit, donning a fur coat that once belonged to his late father.
Hopkins’ father tragically passed away in a car accident in 1992 when Hopkins was just five months old. The coat was handed down to him after his father’s death. According to reports, Hopkins made a personal promise to wear this cherished coat either on the day of his wedding or during the Super Bowl, whichever came first. Although he is not currently married, the Chiefs’ third consecutive Super Bowl appearance provided the perfect occasion for him to wear the coat.
This Super Bowl also marks the ninth postseason game for Hopkins, who has recorded 38 receptions for 457 receiving yards in his previous eight playoff appearances, along with one touchdown. However, his contributions in this year’s playoffs have been limited, with just one catch for 11 yards leading up to Super Bowl LIX. In the regular season, he accumulated 437 receiving yards and four touchdowns over ten games with the Chiefs.
The Chiefs and Eagles are set to clash in the Super Bowl at 6:30 p.m. ET, with extensive coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
