Deloitte has requested certain employees in the US to work from the office in order to qualify for performance bonuses, while operations in India will not be impacted.

In a notable change to its hybrid work policy, Deloitte has informed employees in its US tax division that office attendance will now play a role in their performance evaluations. This adjustment could impact the bonuses of these employees, as they are now expected to be in the office at least two to three times a week, according to a report by the Financial Times. This represents a stricter attendance policy within the firm.

Katie Zinn, the chief talent officer for the tax practice, communicated to employees that “being present at a Deloitte office or client site will now be considered in your performance evaluations.” Zinn’s message also emphasized the need for employees to “ensure in-person collaboration 2-3 days (50 percent) weekly.”

Deloitte, one of the Big Four audit and financial services firms, has supported hybrid work for several years. The requirement for in-person attendance marks a shift in policy for the majority of its 460,000 employees. A spokesperson confirmed this development, stating that the hybrid model is “not one-size-fits-all.”

“Our hybrid model is designed for clients, businesses, team leaders, and professionals to co-locate when it matters most to the performance of our work and the development and wellbeing of our professionals,” the spokesperson explained. Deloitte’s official policy, established three years ago, allows employees to determine how they work in a manner that suits both their clients and colleagues.

In contrast, operations in Deloitte India remain unaffected by this policy change. A company spokesperson clarified that this shift pertains only to the US, and employees in India continue to have the flexibility to decide when to work from the office based on their individual teams. Deloitte has maintained a flexible work environment since 2014, formalizing its hybrid work model three years ago.
