Dion Jordan was a highly regarded NFL prospect when he entered the league in 2013, and the Miami Dolphins selected him with the third overall pick in the draft. However, his career did not unfold as anticipated. The former defensive end recorded just three sacks over 26 games with the Dolphins before facing a suspension in 2015 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
In 2017, Jordan returned to the league with the Seattle Seahawks, where he managed to secure four sacks in five games. Unfortunately, this brief resurgence was insufficient to reignite his career as a starting player. He later played for the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers before exiting the league after the 2020 season.
Now 34, Jordan has reflected on his struggles to meet the lofty expectations placed upon him. In a recent interview on “The Fish Tank” podcast, he acknowledged, “I didn’t have my life in order. My life outside of football wasn’t in balance. I struggled coming in and understanding the plays and the playbook. When I left the facility, I was out partying and enjoying my money, which only set me back. I missed rehabs, and that didn’t help either.”
Jordan takes full responsibility for the trajectory of his NFL career. He is currently serving as an assistant coach at Eureka College in Illinois, where he aims to guide the next generation of players. Over the course of his career, he recorded 13.5 sacks and 108 total tackles in 63 games.
