DTDC Express’s CEO, Abhishek Chakraborty, anticipates that at least 15-20 customers will transition to the company’s new rapid commerce model. The logistics firm is responding to increasing demand for rapid deliveries, particularly in the business-to-business sector, including aftermarket and spare auto components. Chakraborty noted that many B2B customers have faced challenges with delivery times, which have negatively impacted their sales. Over the past few months, DTDC has worked to help these customers restructure their supply chains, leading some to explore rapid commerce solutions for quicker delivery of essential parts to service engineers.
DTDC is engaging with major consumer durable brands across various categories, including electronic accessories, televisions, mobiles, air conditioners, and refrigerators, although specific names have not been disclosed. Recently, the company launched rapid delivery services that promise delivery within 2-4 hours and same-day service. Chakraborty emphasized that different brands will require tailored solutions based on their products and customer demographics, noting that rapid delivery has evolved beyond just groceries to reflect a significant shift in consumer behavior.
As competition in the rapid delivery sector heats up, with companies like Delhivery and Xpressbees expanding their services, Delhivery recently projected that its new rapid commerce business could generate revenues between ₹80-100 crore by the end of the fiscal year, highlighting the rising demand for ultra-fast deliveries in India’s e-commerce market.
In addition, DTDC has opened its first dark store in Bengaluru and is exploring expansion into other cities like Mumbai and Pune, where it has conducted pilot programs. The company is also considering tier 2 and 3 markets such as Surat and Pondicherry, believing that significant growth opportunities exist beyond metropolitan areas, where consumers may not prioritize extremely quick delivery times.
