Golf influencer Paige Spiranac defended Taylor Swift on Monday after the pop star was booed during Super Bowl LIX when her image appeared on the video board. Swift attended the game to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs, a tradition she has maintained for the past two seasons. However, Philadelphia Eagles fans, who filled New Orleans for the game, made their discontent known.
Spiranac expressed her thoughts on the situation in a post on X, stating, “It was reported that the NFL’s brand value has increased almost $1 billion since Taylor Swift started dating Kelce. The NFL is leveraging her popularity to enhance their brand. Booing Taylor Swift is just lame. She was there to support her significant other, and how often she appears at games or on social media is beyond her control.”
The “Swift effect” was a significant topic during the 2023 season, although it seemed to diminish in 2024, with Swift appearing less frequently on television compared to when her relationship with Kelce began. During the Super Bowl LIX broadcast, she was shown only a few times.
Tennis legend Serena Williams also came to Swift’s defense on X, writing, “I love you @taylorswift13, don’t listen to those boos!!”
Regardless of the boos, Swift is set to spend the offseason with Kelce. Last year, she was busy with her “Eras Tour,” but this time she will witness firsthand the decisions Kelce makes regarding his football career. Retirement rumors have circulated about Kelce throughout the season, but he mentioned that Swift has encouraged him to continue playing. “She’s fully supporting me in enjoying this game,” the 10-time Pro Bowler said last month on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” adding that Swift enjoys attending games at Arrowhead Stadium. Kelce indicated that while he has considered retirement, his thoughts on the matter change daily.
