H1: Chennai Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant for ideaForge CFO

The Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Chennai has issued a non-bailable warrant against Vipul Joshi, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of ideaForge Technology Limited, after he failed to appear in court and did not deposit the required bail amount. This legal action follows an FIR filed by the Chennai Cyber Crime Police on August 31, 2023, alleging that ideaForge supplied 15 drones (UAVs) valued at Rs 2.2 crore to a customer, only to later hack and disable the drones. This incident reportedly harmed the customer’s reputation and obstructed government projects worth Rs 70 crore.

The court had previously ordered all accused, including CEO Ankit Mehta, Director Rahul Singh, General Manager Somil Gautam, and CFO Vipul Joshi, to appear by April 1, 2025, and to provide a bail amount of Rs 25,000 along with two valid sureties each. However, during the hearing, it was revealed that the accused had submitted fraudulent sureties—individuals with no ties to the company and lacking knowledge of the case.

The court noted, “The accused were clearly instructed on March 4, 2025, to fulfill the bail conditions by April 1. While CFO Vipul Joshi failed to appear, the others presented fake sureties who were unaware of the company’s name.”

In response to the allegations, ideaForge Technology Limited stated, “This case originates from an incident where one of our customers attempted to appropriate our intellectual property and made false representations to State Governments by tampering with our equipment. When they were prevented from doing so, they initiated actions intended to harass the company. The interim procedural issues stemming from personal exigencies have been resolved. The warrant has been recalled and cancelled, and we are following all due legal procedures as advised by our counsel.”

The court has deemed the use of fraudulent sureties a serious offense, warning that any future attempts could lead to imprisonment for those involved. Despite these issues, the court has granted the accused a final opportunity to deposit the bail bond by April 4.

Previously, ideaForge had sought to quash the charges against them in the Madras High Court, but their request was denied on January 31. A subsequent appeal to halt the proceedings at the Supreme Court was also rejected.
