**Indian Navy Prepared for Targeted Strikes During Operation Sindoor**

The Indian Navy was fully prepared and capable of executing targeted strikes at sea and on land, including Karachi, when India initiated Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, according to Vice Admiral AN Pramod. During a joint media briefing on Operation Sindoor, he stated, “Our forces were strategically deployed in the Arabian Sea, maintaining a decisive posture with complete readiness to strike selected targets at our discretion.”

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The Indian Army and Air Force conducted precision strikes targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), while the Navy remained on standby, ready to support the operation.

Vice Admiral Pramod highlighted that the forward deployment of naval forces forced Pakistan into a defensive stance, primarily keeping their units within harbors or close to the coast, which Indian forces continuously monitored. “The Indian Navy maintained comprehensive maritime domain awareness throughout the operation, being fully aware of the locations and movements of Pakistani units,” he added.

He emphasized that India’s response to Pakistani aggression has been measured, proportionate, non-escalatory, and responsible from the outset. Following the Pahalgam attack, the Navy conducted live-firing drills, launch tests, and combat operational exercises in the Arabian Sea, in line with the government’s commitment to deliver “unimaginable punishment” to the attackers.

All three branches of the Indian Armed Forces were prepared to respond decisively after several high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Modi, pledged a strong retaliation for the attack. The tensions between India and Pakistan intensified following the Pahalgam incident, prompting India to take various retaliatory measures, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, downgrading diplomatic relations, canceling visas for Pakistani nationals, closing Indian airspace to Pakistani flights, halting bilateral trade, and isolating Pakistan financially and globally, culminating in the military response under Operation Sindoor.
