IndiGo and Air India caution about delays due to an A320 issue affecting more than 200 aircraft in India.

**Airlines Brace for Flight Disruptions Due to Airbus Warning**

Airlines in India, including IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express, are preparing for significant flight disruptions following a warning from Airbus regarding potential data corruption in flight-control systems of A320 family aircraft due to intense solar radiation. Reports indicate that between 200 and 250 aircraft in India will require immediate software updates or hardware adjustments, necessitating the grounding of planes as airlines implement these critical fixes.

This alert comes in the wake of an Airbus analysis of a recent incident involving an A320 aircraft abroad, where a suspected malfunction in the Elevator Aileron Computer (ELAC) caused the plane to briefly pitch down. In response, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive mandating that airlines install serviceable ELAC units before the next flight of any affected aircraft. ELAC is essential for flight control operations.

India operates approximately 560 A320 family aircraft, and nearly half may require intervention. With such a large number of planes needing inspection, officials anticipate a considerable operational impact across major carriers.

IndiGo has acknowledged the notification from Airbus regarding the A320 family and stated, “We are working closely with Airbus to ensure implementation as per Airbus notification. While we carry out the necessary inspections, we are making every effort to minimize disruptions.”

Air India Express has also taken precautionary measures, stating, “We have initiated immediate action in response to an alert requiring a software fix on the Airbus A320 fleet. While most of our aircraft are not affected, the guidance applies globally and may lead to adjustments in flight operations, including potential delays or cancellations.” Reports indicate that 31 A320 family planes from Air India Express will be impacted.

Air India has confirmed that parts of its A320 fleet will undergo software and hardware realignment, which will result in longer turnaround times and delays in scheduled operations. The airline expressed regret for any inconvenience this may cause passengers during the reset process.

The A320 family jets, which include A319s, A320ceo/neos, and A321ceo/neos, are integral to India’s domestic aviation network. Consequently, even a brief period of groundings could affect thousands of passengers daily.

Airbus has acknowledged that the necessary precautions will lead to operational disruptions but emphasized that they are essential after identifying a significant number of aircraft at risk. The company has expressed apologies for the inconvenience caused to passengers and airlines alike.

**FAQ**

**What should passengers expect during the flight disruptions?**
