President Donald Trump is set to make history as the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl, and the players participating in the game are aware of his presence. His anticipated attendance has generated excitement among several Kansas City Chiefs players, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, as well as Gracie Hunt, the daughter of the team’s owner. In contrast, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts offered a more reserved response when asked about Trump’s attendance during a press conference.
Hurts stated, “He’s welcome to do what he wants,” and when questioned if Trump’s presence would add pressure, he simply replied, “No.” Notably, Hurts declined an invitation to play golf with former President Barack Obama last October, citing a supposed clause in his contract that prohibits golfing. However, it was clarified that no such clause exists in his five-year, $255 million contract. An Eagles spokesperson mentioned an informal agreement between Hurts and owner Jeffrey Lurie to avoid becoming “golf-obsessed.” Despite this, Hurts referred to Obama as an “all-time leader.”
Other Eagles players also commented on Trump’s attendance. Offensive lineman Jordan Mailata described it as “cool” but emphasized the need to focus on the game, stating, “What am I going to do thinking about Donald Trump? How is that going to make me win the game?”
In contrast, Mahomes and Kelce expressed enthusiasm about Trump’s presence. Kelce referred to it as an “honor,” highlighting the significance of the event, while Mahomes remarked, “It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president.”
When asked about his Super Bowl prediction, Trump hinted at Mahomes’ success without naming him directly, saying, “I don’t want to say, but there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner.” Trump has previously shown admiration for Mahomes and his wife, Brittany.
