Former New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last month following allegations that he strangled a woman. According to reports, Toney is accused of wrapping his hand around the woman’s throat and applying pressure “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe.” Additionally, he allegedly took the woman’s phone during the incident to prevent her from contacting authorities, resulting in visible marks on her neck and hemorrhaging in her eyes.
Toney had a warrant issued for his arrest on January 15, just one day prior to the alleged incident, and he was taken into custody on Thursday. He faces charges of aggravated assault-strangulation and obstructing or harassing 911 calls, as indicated by jail records.
Toney, who was selected as the 20th overall pick by the Giants out of Florida in 2021, had a challenging stint in New York before being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. He made headlines with a record-breaking punt return and a crucial touchdown in the fourth quarter of the 2023 Super Bowl, contributing to the Chiefs’ victory.
However, his time with the Chiefs ended on a disappointing note, as he was not included in last year’s Super Bowl roster. There was considerable debate regarding his health, and he missed the final seven games of the season, including the playoffs.
In the current season, Toney played only one game for the Cleveland Browns, where he muffed a punt, received a taunting penalty, and was subsequently released shortly thereafter.
