Karnataka Minister demands Kamal Haasan to apologize for his comments regarding Kannada or risk being banned.

**Karnataka Minister Demands Apology from Kamal Haasan Over Language Remarks**

Karnataka’s Minister for Kannada and Culture, Shivaraj S Tangadagi, has formally requested the state Film Chamber of Commerce to prohibit the release of actor Kamal Haasan’s films in Karnataka unless he issues an apology for his controversial comments regarding the Kannada language. The Minister stated that Haasan’s remarks, made during the audio launch of his upcoming film ‘Thug Life,’ have “deeply hurt” the sentiments of Kannada-speaking individuals.

Tangadagi’s call for action follows Haasan’s assertion that “Kannada was born out of Tamil,” which sparked significant backlash. The Minister emphasized that any disparagement of the state’s language, land, or water will not be tolerated, regardless of the individual’s stature, including that of Haasan. He insisted that the actor, who has a history of working in Kannada cinema, must apologize to the people of Karnataka and the Kannadigas.

In light of the controversy, the pro-Kannada group Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has also protested outside the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, demanding a public apology from Haasan. The Film Chamber has reportedly given Haasan a 24-hour ultimatum to apologize, warning that failure to do so will lead them to support the pro-Kannada organization’s call for a ban on the release of ‘Thug Life’ in the state.

In a letter to the President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, Tangadagi reiterated his position, stating that no one, regardless of their prominence, should be allowed to make derogatory statements about Karnataka’s language and culture. He declared that if Haasan does not apologize, an immediate ban on his films in Karnataka should be enforced.

Additionally, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has filed a police complaint against Haasan regarding his remarks. The group continues to advocate for a public apology, emphasizing the importance of respecting regional languages and sentiments.

Tangadagi also acknowledged the political affiliations of Haasan’s party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu. He noted that while DMK is an ally, the protection of Karnataka’s language and culture takes precedence.

In response, a regional party in Tamil Nadu, allied with the DMK, has issued a counter-warning to Karnataka, indicating that tensions may escalate if the situation is not resolved amicably.
