Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran has been honored with the UK Knighthood in the ‘Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’ for his contributions to UK-India business relations.
Chandrasekaran expressed his gratitude for the recognition and highlighted Tata Group’s ongoing efforts to strengthen business ties between India and the UK. He stated, “We at the Tata Group take pride in our robust strategic relationship with the UK across various sectors, including technology, consumer goods, hospitality, steel, chemicals, and automotive.”
He also emphasized the significance of Tata Group’s iconic British brands, such as Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley, noting that the group employs over 70,000 people in the UK. Additionally, he mentioned the fruitful research and academic partnerships Tata Group has with prestigious UK institutions, including the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics, the University of Warwick, and the University of Swansea.
The 2024 list of foreign nationals receiving British awards includes notable figures such as Sunil Mittal, Dagmar Dolby, Eric Schmidt, and Jason Furman, among others. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) recognizes contributions in arts, sciences, charitable work, and public service outside the civil service.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran, commonly known as Chandra, has been the Chairman of Tata Sons since 2017, after joining the Board in October 2016. He leads several group companies, including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Air India. Chandra played a crucial role in revitalizing Tata Group following a leadership crisis and has been instrumental in implementing the “One Tata” strategy, focusing on simplification, scale, and synergy within the group. Under his leadership, Tata Group has expanded into semiconductors, electronics, and consumer internet platforms.
