Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the historic Somnath temple in Gujarat on Saturday, participating in rituals to mark the Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebrations. This event commemorates the 1,000th anniversary of the temple’s invasion by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026. During his visit, the Prime Minister engaged in the chanting of the ‘Omkar Mantra’ and took part in special prayers at the temple.

The Somnath Swabhiman Parv, which began on January 8 and will conclude on January 11, features a spectacular drone show that showcased intricate thematic formations, including large images of Lord Shiva, a shivling, and a 3D representation of the Somnath temple. Nearly 3,000 drones were utilized to recreate significant historical events related to the shrine, making it one of the largest drone displays ever organized at a temple site in India. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi were also in attendance.

Upon his arrival in Gujarat, PM Modi received a warm welcome from Chief Minister Patel and other dignitaries. As his convoy made its way to the VVIP circuit house near the temple, he held a brief roadshow, greeted by enthusiastic crowds of local residents and devotees.

On Sunday, at approximately 9:45 am, the Prime Minister will participate in the ‘Shaurya Yatra,’ a ceremonial procession honoring those who sacrificed their lives defending the Somnath temple. This procession will feature a symbolic display of 108 horses, representing valor and sacrifice. Following this, Modi will offer prayers at the Somnath temple around 10:15 am and participate in a public function for the Somnath Swabhiman Parv at 11 am.

The Somnath temple, despite facing numerous attempts at destruction over the centuries, stands today as a powerful symbol of resilience, faith, and national pride. The government attributes its revival to a collective resolve and sustained efforts to restore it to its ancient glory. The Prime Minister’s involvement in the Somnath Swabhiman Parv underscores the enduring spirit of India’s civilization and reaffirms his commitment to preserving and celebrating the country’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
