Prajwal Revanna starts his time in prison as inmate number 15528, wearing a white uniform and earning a daily wage of Rs 524.

**Prajwal Revanna Begins Life Sentence for Conviction of Rape**

Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, now a convicted rapist, has commenced his life sentence at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. The 33-year-old, who is no longer an undertrial, has been assigned convict number 15528 and moved to the jail’s convict barracks.

Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 11 lakh for raping a 47-year-old domestic worker in Mysuru and filming the act. The compensation will be awarded to the survivor, concluding a case that progressed unusually quickly, with just 14 months passing from the filing of the FIR to the final verdict.

As of today, Revanna’s life will align with that of any other life convict. He will don a white prison uniform, adhere to strict jail routines, and engage in eight hours of mandatory labor each day. Prison officials have confirmed that he will be treated like any other inmate, in accordance with the Karnataka Prison Manual.

Revanna will choose from several assigned duties, including work in the jail bakery, gardening, dairy, vegetable farming, carpentry, or handicrafts. Initially, he will earn Rs 524 per month for unskilled labor, with the potential for pay increases based on performance and skill development.

The case against Revanna, once viewed as a promising political figure and the NDA’s Lok Sabha candidate from Hassan in 2024, unraveled after explicit videos he recorded were circulated prior to the elections. The release of these videos incited public outrage and led to a criminal complaint filed at the Cyber Crime Station of the CID.

Despite Revanna’s assertions that the clips were “morphed,” the court found the digital forensic and eyewitness evidence compelling. The trial, which began on December 31, 2024, featured testimony from 23 witnesses. Forensic reports and site inspections played a crucial role in securing the conviction.

During the investigation, the survivor provided a saree as physical evidence, which underwent forensic testing that confirmed the presence of sperm. This evidence was pivotal in establishing the case of rape. The CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Inspector Shobha, collected 123 pieces of evidence and submitted a comprehensive chargesheet spanning nearly 2,000 pages.

Revanna was convicted under multiple sections of the IPC, including 376(2)(k), 376(2)(n), 354(A), 354(B), and 354(C).
