In FY25, River Mobility’s losses more than doubled to ₹176 crore, up from ₹82 crore in FY24, despite a remarkable 20-fold increase in revenue. Despite the financial challenges, CEO and co-founder Aravind Mani remains optimistic about the company’s future. “We only had four months of sales in FY24, and at that time, we had no distribution, selling from an office in Whitefield, Bengaluru,” Mani explained. “In the past year, we’ve opened 25 outlets, which has significantly boosted our revenue.”

The company has also seen a remarkable 16-fold increase in scooter sales, jumping from 390 units in FY24 to 6,157 units in FY25, highlighting the positive impact of its retail expansion. River Mobility’s flagship product, the Indie electric scooter, was launched in October 2023 and has contributed to this growth.

Looking ahead, River Mobility aims to open 100 stores by the end of FY26, with plans for rapid expansion across India. Currently, its operations are primarily concentrated in southern India, with a new store set to open in Pune in April. “Opening in Pune is a strategic decision due to its large two-wheeler market,” Mani noted, emphasizing that growth strategies are based on practical considerations rather than mere appearances. “We’re increasing our marketing spend as we scale nationwide.”

In the previous financial year, the company focused on enhancing its research and development capabilities and increasing staffing at its manufacturing facility in Hoskote, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru. River Mobility anticipates achieving gross margin profitability between September and October this year. “Once we reach a sales volume of 15,000 to 20,000 units per month, we will be EBITDA positive,” Mani stated. However, achieving this goal will require a significant increase in production capacity. Although the Hoskote facility has the potential to produce up to 8,000 units monthly, it is currently operating at less than 20% capacity, producing only 1,000 to 1,500 units.
