**Bolt’s Rapid Growth: Swiggy’s Fastest-Scaling Delivery Service**

In just a year since its launch, Bolt has quickly become Swiggy’s most rapidly expanding delivery service. Initially introduced to meet the rising demand for swift food deliveries, Bolt now operates in 700 cities, a significant increase from 500 in May. Currently, 20% of the restaurants listed on Swiggy are also registered with Bolt, as consumers increasingly favor 10-12 minute delivery times for items like coffee and samosas.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, shared insights in a recent interview, revealing that Bolt accounts for over 10% of the total orders on the platform, with expectations for this share to grow as service availability improves. While specific growth projections for Bolt were not disclosed, Kapoor maintained an overall growth guidance of 18-20% for Swiggy’s food delivery business.

Kapoor emphasized the unique advantage Bolt offers, stating, “When consumers realize they can get a coffee or a biryani in 10 minutes, they come back. And once restaurants see the demand, they start curating menus specifically for it.” This adaptability is crucial as Swiggy continues to expand its presence, now covering 718 cities.

As more restaurants adjust their offerings for Bolt, Kapoor noted that the service does not require significant cash investment from Swiggy, as each order is profitable. “It’s 100% platform-driven — everything comes from outside kitchens,” he explained.

In the September quarter, Swiggy’s food delivery segment reported a 19% year-on-year increase in gross order value (GOV), reaching ₹8,542 crore, with a 22% growth in users, totaling 17.2 million. Bolt was launched in October 2022, anticipating a surge in demand for faster deliveries, a trend fueled by the rapid rise of quick-commerce platforms.

Competitors in the quick-commerce space, such as Zepto and Eternal (formerly Zomato), have also ventured into quick delivery services, but some have scaled back operations due to fluctuating demand. In May, Swiggy noted a significant increase in Bolt’s demand across metropolitan areas and tier-2 and tier-3 towns, with a network of 45,000 restaurants providing quick delivery options for various food items.

Kapoor highlighted that cities are well-covered, and the focus remains on enhancing customer use cases and expanding Bolt’s service availability. “Whenever we show volumes to our restaurant partners and there is demand, they are able to curate menus for Bolt very fast,” he stated.

As the food services industry in India is projected to exceed $120-125 billion by 2030, Bolt’s growth reflects a broader trend towards faster delivery options in the market.
