**Headline:** Tahawwur Rana Extradited from the US to Face Charges in Mumbai Terror Attacks

Tahawwur Rana, the alleged mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, has been extradited from the United States and is expected to arrive in India early tomorrow morning. He will be accompanied by a specialized team of intelligence and investigative officials. A special aircraft is transporting Rana, with a planned stop at an undisclosed location before reaching New Delhi.

In accordance with a US court’s recommendations, heightened security measures have been established at two jails in Delhi and Mumbai. Upon his arrival, Rana will be presented before a National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in New Delhi for custody, with the Mumbai Crime Branch set to take over his custody later. The extradition process is being closely monitored by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, along with senior officials from the NIA and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Rana, a Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, is known for his involvement with the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). He played a crucial role in facilitating travel documents for David Coleman Headley, a Pakistani-American who conducted reconnaissance on key targets in Mumbai. These locations were subsequently attacked by LeT terrorists, who received logistical and strategic support from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Reports indicate that Rana himself traveled to Mumbai between November 11 and 21, 2008, via Dubai. During his stay at the Hotel Renaissance in Powai, he is believed to have assessed the logistical preparations for the attacks, which occurred just five days later on November 26, resulting in over 170 fatalities. To date, Ajmal Kasab is the only LeT terrorist convicted for the attacks, having been captured alive during the siege.

India formally requested Rana’s provisional arrest in June 2020, initiating the legal proceedings for his extradition. In February of this year, former US President Donald Trump confirmed Rana’s extradition, stating that he would “go to India and face justice.” Recently, the US Supreme Court denied Rana’s application for a stay on his extradition. The 64-year-old businessman is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Los Angeles.
