**BJP and TMC Clash Over West Bengal’s Industrial Growth**

In a heated exchange on Wednesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) engaged in a war of words regarding the industrial landscape in West Bengal. TMC leaders asserted that the number of industries in the state has significantly increased under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, while the BJP countered with claims to the contrary.

West Bengal’s Industry Minister, Shashi Panja, accused the BJP of orchestrating “fake campaigns” aimed at tarnishing the state’s industrial achievements. She highlighted that the number of companies with registered offices in Bengal has surged from 137,156 in 2011 to an anticipated 250,343 by 2025. Panja noted that in the past six years alone, 44,040 new companies have been established in the state, while only 1,742 companies have relocated their registered offices outside Bengal.

Panja emphasized that Bengal has experienced a “wave of development” under Mamata Banerjee, which she claims the BJP cannot replicate. She criticized the BJP for disseminating “lies, half-truths, and propaganda” regarding the state’s industrial progress.

In response, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya argued that merely registering an office does not equate to operating a successful industry. He pointed to the “real story” of West Bengal, which he described as one of “boarded-up factories, fleeing companies, and collapsing investor confidence,” asserting that the state has deteriorated from a position of industrial pride to an economic cautionary tale under Banerjee’s governance.

The BJP has claimed that from April 2011 to March 2025, a total of 6,688 companies, including 110 listed firms, have moved their registered offices out of West Bengal. Malviya characterized this trend as a “mass exodus,” emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

As the debate continues, the contrasting narratives from the BJP and TMC highlight the ongoing political struggle over West Bengal’s industrial future.
