**Madhya Pradesh’s Untapped Potential in Food Processing Sector**
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) – February 24: Madhya Pradesh holds considerable promise in the food processing industry, particularly with its untapped crops, as highlighted by Piruz Khambatta, Chairman of the Rasna Group. He stressed the importance of identifying suitable crops and enhancing their value to stimulate food processing growth in the state.
Khambatta remarked on the opportunities available in Madhya Pradesh and across India, stating, “The greatest potential of Madhya Pradesh lies in its numerous unexplored crops. By identifying the right crops, adding value, and utilizing the skilled labor force available, food processing can flourish. The youth in this region are seeking employment, and globally, it is often difficult to find the right talent. The synergy of skilled manpower and appropriate crops is essential for food processing. We are actively investigating both aspects to create more value-added products from the state.”
He noted that Rasna is keen on developing additional value-added products, particularly focusing on citrus crops such as oranges and various spices. “We are certainly exploring the potential of specific citrus varieties like oranges for processing, as well as spices. We were pioneers in launching a masala orange,” he added.
While no Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been finalized yet, Khambatta indicated that Rasna is considering establishing production units in Madhya Pradesh. He also referenced Bihar’s successful identification of Makhana as a key crop that has achieved global recognition. “Every state should identify a hero crop. Madhya Pradesh must also discover its key agricultural product that can propel growth in food processing,” he emphasized.
On the topic of Rasna’s international expansion, Khambatta shared that the company currently exports to 50 countries and sees significant growth potential both domestically and abroad. “The global market is shifting towards organic products devoid of chemicals or synthetics. We have introduced products that are free from artificial colors and flavors to cater to this demand. Consumers are willing to pay a premium for organic offerings. Our objective is to expand our reach from 50 countries to 100,” he stated.
As Madhya Pradesh seeks to identify its key crop for value addition, stakeholders recognize vast opportunities for further development in the state’s food processing industry.
