**Bombay High Court Initiates Contempt Proceedings Against Lawyer**

The Bombay High Court has initiated contempt proceedings against lawyer Nilesh Ojha for making serious allegations against a current judge and a former Chief Justice during a press conference related to the Disha Salian death case. Ojha, who represents Satish Salian, Disha’s father, has been vocal about the case.

On Tuesday, a special bench comprising five judges, led by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and including Justices AS Chandurkar, MS Sonak, Ravindra Ghughe, and AS Gadkari, reviewed a video clip presented to the court. The video featured Ojha addressing the media on April 1, just a day before Salian’s petition was scheduled for a hearing.

During the press conference, Ojha claimed that the bench handling the case was “disqualified” and accused one of the judges of forgery, among other serious allegations. The judges expressed that Ojha should have raised his concerns within the courtroom rather than through a press conference. They noted, “The statements appear to have been made deliberately to scandalize the authority of the court and the judge,” emphasizing that such public declarations could undermine public trust in the legal system.

The court deemed Ojha’s remarks as defamatory and stated that they could potentially harm the integrity of the judiciary. “The manner in which the statement has been made certainly amounts to contempt,” the court remarked. “The statement is ex facie contemptuous and interferes with the administration of justice. We are satisfied that the statement constitutes prima facie contempt under the Contempt of Court Act. Therefore, we issue a notice to Nilesh Ojha.”

Additionally, the court has included YouTube and a regional news channel as parties in the case, instructing them to remove the video containing Ojha’s controversial statements.
