The Nets express gratitude towards a player who did not play in any games for them this season as part of a roster change.

The Brooklyn Nets recently shared an unusual “thank you” post for Bojan Bogdanovic, who was released on Thursday. According to ESPN, Bogdanovic is set to undergo season-ending foot surgery. The peculiar aspect of the Nets’ gratitude is that Bogdanovic never actually played a game for the team.

The 35-year-old forward had been with the New York Knicks nearly a year ago, but he exited Game 4 of the first-round playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers due to injury. After undergoing foot surgery, he was traded to the Nets in the deal that brought Mikal Bridges to New York. It was anticipated that Bogdanovic would return to the court for Brooklyn, but complications from his initial surgery have necessitated another procedure.

With Bogdanovic now waived, the Nets have signed former No. 7 overall pick Killian Hayes to a 10-day contract, as confirmed by his agent. Bogdanovic will be looking for a new team as he heads into his 12th NBA season next year. Throughout his career, he has played for six different teams, averaging 15.6 points per game and shooting 39.4% from beyond the arc. Bogdanovic began his NBA journey with the Nets during the 2014-15 season, earning a spot on the NBA All-Rookie team. He has also played for the Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz, and Detroit Pistons, who traded him to the Knicks during the 2023-24 season.

In his career, Bogdanovic has averaged 15.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
