In a significant operation, security forces killed three Maoists, including a female member, during an encounter in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on December 18. The operation was executed by the Sukma District Reserve Guard (DRG) based on reliable intelligence regarding the presence of Maoists in the forested hills under the jurisdiction of the Golapalli police station.

Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan reported that the DRG team initiated a search operation after receiving credible information. The encounter began in the morning and involved intermittent exchanges of gunfire between the security personnel and the Maoists. Following the conclusion of the encounter, the bodies of two male Maoists and one female Maoist were recovered from the scene.

The deceased Maoists were identified as Madvi Joga alias Munna, an Area Committee Member (ACM) from Narayanpur district; Sodhi Bandi, also an ACM from Singhanamadgu in the Kistaram area of Sukma; and Nuppo Bajni, a Local Organisation Squad (LOS) member from Tekalguda in the Jagargunda area of Sukma. Each of the male Maoists had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on their heads, while the female Maoist had a reward of Rs 2 lakh, bringing the total bounty on the three to Rs 7 lakh. All three were active members of the Konta/Kistaram Area Committee and were implicated in several serious criminal cases.

During the search of the encounter site, security forces recovered a 9 mm service pistol, a 12-bore shotgun, a BGL cell, a tiffin bomb, and a substantial cache of explosives and other materials associated with Naxalite activities.

Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj Pattilingam stated that joint operations by security forces in 2025 have led to the elimination of 255 Maoists, including Central Committee members and PLGA cadres. He emphasized that these operations have significantly weakened the Maoist network in the Bastar region and urged remaining Maoists to abandon violence and take advantage of the government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
