Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady expressed deep admiration for his parents and shared valuable advice for aspiring athletes. During an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” Brady reminisced about a poignant moment before Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons, where he referred to his father, Tom Sr., as his hero. He became emotional while discussing how his father supported his mother, Galynn, during her battle with breast cancer at that time.
Brady reflected on the unwavering support he received from his parents throughout his athletic journey. “I was incredibly fortunate to have a mom and dad who backed me every step of the way, instilling in me the importance of family, commitment, and mutual support,” he said. He highlighted the challenges his family faced during his mother’s illness and praised his father’s dedication to her and their family. “My dad is the greatest man I’ve ever known, and I strive to make him proud in everything I do. His example inspires me to be the best father I can be for my kids.”
Throughout his career, Brady set high standards for himself, despite not being the top player in high school or college. Drafted in the sixth round of the NFL, he began as a backup to Drew Bledsoe with minimal expectations. He even had the option to pursue baseball, having been selected by the Montreal Expos in the MLB Draft.
Brady emphasized that his parents’ unwavering belief in him played a crucial role in his success. “I was just a regular American kid with dreams, and my parents never limited my aspirations. They encouraged me to aim high, even when I wanted to attend Michigan,” he recalled. “They always believed I could achieve my goals.”
He humorously noted that he was one of the slowest players at the NFL combine, yet his mother insisted he was fast. “I told her, ‘Mom, I love you, but you’re biased.’ Despite that, I never considered a plan B; my parents’ support was all I needed.
