President Donald Trump made history by attending the Super Bowl at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, becoming the first sitting president to do so. In a pre-recorded interview with Bret Baier, Trump expressed his support for the Kansas City Chiefs to win the championship. Upon his arrival at the stadium, he took a moment to stroll around the field and greeted Chiefs star defensive lineman Chris Jones.
Jones, known for his emotional responses during the national anthem, shared with reporters earlier in the week the reason behind his tears. “Quick story. I was watching the movie ‘300,’ one of my favorites. Right before they go into battle, there’s a moment of crying because they’re so angry and ready for war,” he explained. “When I play football, I adopt that mindset, thinking I might not make it home tonight. It’s a battle, and it’s going to be intense. So during the national anthem, I put myself in that frame of mind.”
Trump admitted he was initially reluctant to make a prediction due to the exceptional talent on the field but ultimately chose experience as a deciding factor. He praised Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, noting, “He has a phenomenal wife, who happens to be a Trump supporter. I have to go with Kansas City because of the success he’s had.”
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts responded to Trump’s attendance by stating he could do “whatever he wants,” while both Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce expressed their excitement, with Kelce calling it an “honor” to play in front of the president.
Jones had an impressive season, recording five sacks and 37 tackles in 15 games, along with a sack and five tackles in the playoffs. Throughout his playoff career, he has accumulated 3.5 sacks in 21 games.
If Trump’s prediction holds true, the Chiefs would make NFL history by winning three consecutive Super Bowls, a quest that began two years ago against the Eagles.
