Packers sign All-Pro cornerback after chaotic Cowboys departure: report

**Trevon Diggs Joins Green Bay Packers After Cowboys Release**

Former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs was waived on Tuesday, but the 27-year-old quickly found a new opportunity with the Green Bay Packers. The Packers claimed Diggs in an effort to strengthen their secondary as they prepare for the playoffs. Currently, they hold the No. 7 seed in the NFC, regardless of the outcomes in Week 18.

Diggs has faced challenges in recent seasons, including injuries and a notable dispute with the Cowboys on Christmas Day. Reports indicate that head coach Brian Schottenheimer denied Diggs’ request to stay in Maryland to spend the holiday with his family after the team’s game against the Washington Commanders. Trevon, whose brother Stefon is currently dealing with legal issues, expressed a desire to be with his family during the festive season.

Just a couple of years ago, Diggs seemed poised to be a cornerstone of the Cowboys’ defense. In 2021, he led the NFL with 11 interceptions and earned first-team All-Pro honors. The following year, he was selected for the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive time after recording three interceptions. He signed a five-year, $97 million contract extension at the start of training camp in 2023.

However, since signing the contract, Diggs has struggled to stay on the field. He played 16 games in 2021 and 17 in 2022, but in 2023, he managed only two games before suffering a torn ACL during a practice in September. Although he returned to play 11 games in 2024, he was unable to regain his previous form and was placed on injured reserve for another procedure on his knee. In 2025, he played eight games, dealing with a knee injury and a concussion from a home accident.

In those eight games in 2025, Diggs recorded 25 combined tackles but did not register any interceptions. Over his career with the Cowboys, he accumulated 20 interceptions, 63 passes defended, two forced fumbles, and 240 combined tackles.

The Packers are responsible for Diggs’ base salary of $472,000, with an additional $58,823 if he is activated for Week 18. There is no guaranteed money in his contract beyond this season. The Packers, currently at 9-6-1, are set to face the Minnesota Vikings at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
