Before the game, two legendary figures in hockey were honored as honorary captains for their respective nations: Wayne Gretzky for Canada and Mike Eruzione for the USA. Eruzione, known for captaining the iconic 1980 Miracle on Ice team, energized the American crowd with his presence. He made a special tribute by donning the jersey of Johnny Gaudreau, the late NHL All-Star who tragically lost his life alongside his younger brother due to an alleged drunk driver in August.
