In a heartbreaking incident from Sangli district, Maharashtra, a 17-year-old girl tragically lost her life after allegedly being severely beaten by her father for not performing well in a medical entrance exam. The accused, Dhondiram Bhagwan Bhosale, a 50-year-old principal of a private school, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

The victim, identified as Sadhana, was a Class 12 student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Following a disappointing score in a preparatory exam, her father reportedly became enraged and attacked her with a wooden stick on Friday night. Her mother, Preeti Bhosale, 41, filed a police complaint detailing the incident.

According to police reports, the assault left Sadhana critically injured. The following morning, her mother rushed her to a local hospital, but as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to a district hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

Preeti Bhosale shared that her daughter had previously excelled academically, scoring 95% in her Class 10 exams, and had aspirations of becoming a doctor. The family had high hopes for Sadhana to succeed in the NEET, making the alleged assault all the more tragic following her recent poor performance.

After conducting her daughter’s last rites, Preeti approached law enforcement to file a formal complaint against her husband. Based on her statement, a case was registered against Dhondiram Bhosale under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

In the aftermath of this incident, sub-divisional police officer Vipul Patil and police inspector Vinay Vahir visited the crime scene. Dhondiram Bhosale was arrested by Atpadi Police on Sunday and subsequently presented in court, where he was remanded to police custody until June 24.
