A 15-year-old girl from Puri district in Odisha has been airlifted to AIIMS New Delhi in critical condition after being attacked by three assailants who doused her in petrol and set her ablaze. The shocking incident occurred in Bayabar village on Saturday while the girl was en route to a friend’s house. The attackers forcibly took her to the banks of the River Bhargavi before committing the heinous act.

Suffering from severe burn injuries covering 75 percent of her body, the girl was initially admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. In a swift response, authorities established a green corridor from the hospital to Biju Patnaik International Airport to expedite her transfer to the national capital. Bhubaneswar Traffic DCP Tapan Kumar Mohanty reported that the ambulance, equipped with advanced life support and a dedicated medical team, reached the airport in just 10 to 12 minutes.

Before her transfer, AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Ashutosh Biswas confirmed that the girl’s condition had stabilized, with improvements in her blood pressure, allowing for a safe transfer. She arrived at AIIMS New Delhi at 4:20 PM on Sunday and is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Burns and Plastic Surgery block. Her condition remains critical, and she is on oxygen support, with a team of doctors closely monitoring her progress.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his deep concern over the incident, stating, “The victim has been airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for the best treatment. The state government will ensure all necessary facilities for this. I pray before Lord Jagannath for the girl’s speedy recovery.”

In response to the attack, BJD leaders and supporters have staged protests outside the Balanga police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
