The case of the missing honeymoon couple from Indore, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, has taken a new turn as a tourist guide claims they were seen with three men on the day they vanished in Meghalaya’s Sohra area. The couple went missing on May 23, and while Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge on June 2, the search for Sonam continues.

Albert Pde, a guide at Mawlakhiat, reported to the police that he observed the couple with three male tourists climbing over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 am on the day they disappeared. Pde recognized them as he had offered his guiding services the previous day, which they declined in favor of another guide. He noted that the men were conversing in Hindi, but he could not understand their discussion as he is fluent only in Khasi and English.

Pde mentioned that by the time he reached Mawlakhiat, the couple’s rented scooter was missing. The scooter was later found at Sohrarim, several kilometers from the parking area at Mawlakhiat, with the keys still attached. Meanwhile, Sonam remains unaccounted for, prompting her brother, Govind, to criticize the state government’s search efforts, suggesting they treat her as if she were already deceased. He expressed strong belief that Sonam is still alive and urged authorities to involve the CBI or other agencies in the search.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma assured that the government is making every effort to locate Sonam, despite challenging conditions such as difficult terrain, heavy rainfall, and fog that limits visibility. East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated that the search teams are doing their best without advanced technology or trained dogs.

Raja’s decomposed body was found near Weisawdong falls, with missing personal items raising suspicions of foul play. A bloodstained machete was discovered nearby, and a raincoat similar to the one Sonam was seen wearing was found in Mawkma village, located between Sohrarim and the gorge where Raja’s body was located. Unfortunately, the Mawlakhiat parking lot lacks CCTV surveillance and vehicle registration records, complicating the investigation further.

As the search for Sonam continues, the community remains hopeful for her safe return, while authorities are urged to enhance their efforts in this troubling case.
