**Headline:** Major Joint Operation in Andhra Pradesh Results in Death of Three Senior Maoist Leaders

In a significant joint operation involving the Andhra Pradesh Greyhounds, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Chhattisgarh police, three senior Maoist leaders were killed during an early morning gunfight in the Maredumilli forest area of East Godavari district on Wednesday. The deceased include Gajarla Ravi alias Uday, a central committee member and secretary of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), Raavi Venkata Lakshmi Chaitanya alias Aruna, a special zonal committee member and east division secretary, and another cadre identified as Anju.

The encounter occurred near Kintukuru village, situated between Maredumilli and Rampachodavaram in Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district. According to police reports, the exchange of gunfire lasted approximately 25 minutes after a group of 16 Maoists was detected in the vicinity. Security forces recovered three bodies from the scene, and combing operations are currently in progress as the remaining Maoists reportedly fled the area.

In a related incident, a separate encounter was reported near the Chhattisgarh border in Sukma district, where two additional Maoists were killed, and two AK-47 rifles were seized. Operations in that region are also ongoing.

Gajarla Ravi, known by several aliases including Uday, Ganesh, and Birusu, was originally from Velishala village in Bhupalapally district of Telangana. He was one of the highest-ranking Maoist leaders in the region, with a bounty of Rs 25 lakh on his head. His involvement in the Maoist movement spanned nearly four decades, including participation in the 2004–05 peace talks with the Andhra Pradesh government under Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy as part of the People’s War Group. Ravi had previously overseen operations in areas such as Malkangiri, Koraput, and Srikakulam, and was recognized for his expertise in guerrilla warfare and IED deployment. Despite health challenges, he continued to lead operations well into his late forties and was regarded as a top-ranking Maoist leader in the AOBSZC as of early 2025.

Aruna, who was married to the deceased Central Committee member Chalapati, hailed from Karak Vani Palem in Visakhapatnam district. She carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh and was a prominent figure in the Maoist women’s wing, contributing significantly to military coordination.

The bodies of the three deceased leaders were recovered from the encounter site, and while police have confirmed their identities, an official statement is pending. Reports indicate that intelligence regarding Maoist activities in the Maredumilli area was received by police on Tuesday evening.

Additionally, another encounter was reported in the forest area between Koyilagudem and Kittukuru villages in Rampachodavaram mandal, with further details awaited. Officials have stated that the deaths of Ravi and Aruna represent a significant setback for the AOBSZC, one of the active regional factions of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). Security forces assert that this operation has effectively neutralized key leadership within the Andhra-Odisha-Chhattisgarh region.
