A red alert has been announced as heavy rain impacts Delhi-NCR. Water accumulation and traffic congestion are back.

**Delhi-NCR Experiences Fresh Rainfall with Weather Alerts Issued**

Residents of Delhi-NCR awoke to a new wave of rainfall on Wednesday, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate showers across the national capital for the remainder of the week. A red alert has been issued for heavy rains in the northeast and southeast regions of Delhi.

The recent showers followed a significant downpour on Tuesday, which resulted in waterlogging in various parts of the city. The vicinity around Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was particularly affected by the heavy rain, although flight operations remained unaffected.

Traffic congestion was reported in multiple areas, including South Delhi, ITO, and the Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road. The IMD’s latest advisory indicates that moderate to heavy rainfall, along with light thunderstorms and winds gusting between 30-40 km/h, is expected throughout Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Additionally, parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience light to moderate rain throughout the day.

The weather department has warned of localized flooding on roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and the potential closure of underpasses due to the persistent rain. There is also a risk of minor damage to temporary structures such as kutcha houses and huts.

Compounding the situation, water discharge from Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage has surpassed 50,000 cusecs for the first time this monsoon season, which may lead to a rise in the water levels of the Yamuna River in the national capital.

Prior to the latest rainfall, Delhi recorded 136.3mm of rain, while the city typically sees an average of 209.7mm in July.
