**Outrage Erupts Over Scheduled Caste Officer’s Humiliation in Tamil Nadu**

A recent incident in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district has sparked significant outrage and political controversy. A video surfaced showing Muniyappan, a Scheduled Caste government officer, prostrating himself before DMK councillor Ramya Raja inside the Tindivanam Municipality office. The footage, which has gone viral, depicts Muniyappan apologizing to Raja while others in the room urged him to express remorse.

BJP state president K Annamalai shared the video on social media, accusing the DMK of hypocrisy. He criticized the party for claiming to champion social justice while allegedly perpetuating social injustice. Following the incident, Muniyappan filed a complaint with the Tindivanam police against councillor Ramya Raja and her husband, Raja.

In his complaint, Muniyappan alleged that after being asked by Ramya to retrieve a document, he faced verbal abuse when he took longer than expected. He claimed that both Ramya and her husband directed casteist slurs at him, referring to him as a “colony payyan” and a “Pariah.” Furthermore, he stated that senior officials later convened a meeting where he was pressured to apologize to the councillor, culminating in the humiliating act captured in the viral video.

In response to the backlash, Ramya Raja denied any coercion, stating, “Nobody asked him to fall at my feet. He got emotional and fell on his own.”

This incident raises critical questions about caste dynamics and the treatment of Scheduled Caste individuals within government institutions in India, highlighting ongoing issues of discrimination and social justice.
