According to reports, Aaron Rodgers has a preference for joining the Rams, who may consider trading Matthew Stafford in the upcoming offseason.

The New York Jets have announced that Aaron Rodgers will not be their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. This means the four-time MVP will be looking for his third NFL team, following his trade from the Green Bay Packers to New York before the 2023 season. Reports indicate that Rodgers has a preference for joining the Los Angeles Rams. Additionally, he may bring along one of his favorite targets, Davante Adams, who is set to become a free agent. Adams has expressed a desire to play alongside Rodgers, and with a significant $35.65 million cap hit for the next two seasons, he could be a candidate for release by the Jets.

However, there is a significant obstacle to this potential move: the Rams currently have a quarterback on their roster. Matthew Stafford is at the center of trade rumors this offseason, and the Rams would need to address Stafford’s situation before considering a replacement. NFL Network’s Peter Schrager reported that while Stafford and the Rams maintain a good relationship, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback is seeking a salary of $50 million or more for the 2025 season, which would place him among the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks.

Despite being under contract for two more seasons, the Rams have allowed Stafford to explore contract discussions with other teams. Teams in need of a quarterback, such as the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers, have reached out to Stafford. Giants GM Joe Schoen mentioned at the NFL Scouting Combine that he would be pursuing top quarterbacks, including Stafford.

For the 2025 season, Stafford has a cap hit of $49.67 million, which increases to $53.67 million in 2026. Furthermore, the Rams have indicated that veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp, one of Stafford’s most reliable targets, is also on the trading block and is not expected to participate in training camp with the team. If Stafford and Kupp are traded, it could pave the way for a new partnership between Rodgers and Adams, potentially alongside rising star Puka Nacua and the rest of the Rams’ roster, which achieved a playoff victory in 2024.
