Detroit Lions star receiver Jameson Williams will not face any league discipline following an incident in October 2024, where he was pulled over with an unlicensed firearm, according to reports. On October 8, 2024, Williams and his brother were stopped by police, who discovered two handguns in their vehicle. While the firearms were properly registered, Williams did not possess a concealed carry license, which could have resulted in a charge for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. However, his brother did have a valid concealed pistol license.
At the scene, Williams was briefly handcuffed but was not arrested or charged. It was noted that the police sergeant recognized Williams as a Lions fan, which may have influenced the outcome. The sergeant contacted higher-ranking officials during the stop, and after receiving guidance from a lieutenant to release the brothers, he expressed gratitude, calling the lieutenant a “hero.” Subsequently, Williams was uncuffed and allowed to leave without further complications. Bodycam footage revealed that the sergeant’s phone background featured a Lions logo.
Although the NFL has decided not to impose any penalties on Williams regarding this incident, Lions head coach Dan Campbell spoke positively about him, especially after Williams faced a two-week suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy. Before the Lions’ playoff game against the Washington Commanders, Campbell expressed his support for Williams, acknowledging the challenges he has faced and his growth. “I love that kid because he’s had to endure a lot,” Campbell stated. “He’s learning from it, and I love where he’s at. I really do. I’m proud of him.”
In the 2024 season, Williams had a breakout performance, accumulating 1,001 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 58 receptions, along with 61 rushing yards and a touchdown, contributing significantly to the Lions securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
