According to reports, Travis Kelce is unsure whether he will continue playing in 2025, and the outcome of the Super Bowl may influence his decision.

Travis Kelce expressed earlier this week in New Orleans that he envisions himself “hopefully still playing football” in three years. However, a recent report suggests that Super Bowl LIX might be the final game for the star tight end. According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, there is a possibility that Super Bowl LIX could mark “the final game” of Kelce’s career. He is “expected to take time after the Super Bowl to consider his future and make a decision before free agency begins on March 12.”

Rapoport noted that the outcome of Sunday’s game could significantly influence Kelce’s future. A victory would provide a remarkable conclusion to a potential Hall of Fame career, as it would contribute to a dynasty that could become the first to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

In terms of statistics, Kelce ranks third among tight ends in NFL history with 1,004 receptions and 12,151 receiving yards, and fifth in touchdowns with 77. Notably, 11 tight ends, including those ahead of him in these categories, have played more games than he has. For context, Tony Gonzalez, who leads in both catches and yards, participated in 270 games—95 more than Kelce.

While Kelce has demonstrated his ability to perform in the postseason, evidenced by a season-high 117 yards in the divisional round, it is apparent that he is not at his All-Pro level anymore. This season marked the first time since 2015 that Kelce played in at least 16 games without surpassing the 1,000-yard mark, and he recorded only three touchdowns during the regular season, the lowest total of his career outside of his rookie season.

If Sunday turns out to be his last game, it would certainly conclude a legendary career. Kelce has been selected to 10 Pro Bowls and has earned First- or Second-team All-Pro honors seven times.

Kelce’s off-field fame has surged in the past 18 months, largely due to his relationship with Taylor Swift, although he was already becoming a household name prior to that. He hosted “Saturday Night Live” in March 2023, shortly after securing his second Super Bowl victory. A win on Sunday would grant Kelce his fourth championship ring.

His brother, Jason, retired last year after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, who will face the Chiefs in Sunday’s matchup—a rematch of the Super Bowl from two years ago that featured both brothers.
