**Actor and Comedian Brian Murphy Passes Away at 92**
Brian Murphy, the beloved actor and comedian, has died at the age of 92. He was best known for his roles in the 1970s sitcoms “Man About The House” and its spin-off “George And Mildred.” The news of his passing was announced by his wife, actress Linda Regan, known for her role in “Hi-de-Hi!” She shared a heartfelt tribute, posting a photo of herself kissing her husband, stating, “My love for you will never die. RIP sweetheart.”
Murphy passed away on Sunday morning at his home in Kent, with his wife of 35 years by his side. In her statement, she expressed, “I was lucky to have in my lifetime found my soulmate. Brian, who I will love forever!” His agent and friend, Thomas Bowington, described Murphy as a “truly joyful and profoundly good-hearted man.”
Murphy gained fame for portraying landlord George Roper in “Man About The House,” which aired from 1973 and was notable for featuring two single women living with a man, a controversial premise at the time. Following the show’s conclusion in 1976, he reprised his role alongside the late Yootha Joyce in the spin-off “George And Mildred,” which ran for five series until 1979. He also played Alvin Smedley in the long-running series “Last Of The Summer Wine.”
Born on the Isle of Wight, Murphy was a member of the Theatre Workshop founded by Joan Littlewood and worked as a jobbing actor before landing roles in various TV shows, including “Z-Cars.” In 1993, he starred in the first major stage adaptation of H.G. Wells’ science fiction classic “The Invisible Man.” More recently, he appeared in popular TV series such as the BBC’s “Holby City” and ITV’s “Benidorm.”
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
