**Akasa Air Joins IATA, Strengthening Its Global Presence**

Akasa Air, India’s newest airline, announced on January 9 that it has officially become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This milestone follows the airline’s successful completion of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), a prerequisite for airlines aspiring to join the prestigious global aviation body.

Founded in 2020 by aviation entrepreneur Vinay Dube, Akasa Air has been steadily expanding its operations and now joins a global community that includes over 360 carriers worldwide. This membership positions Akasa Air alongside major players in the international aviation sector, including four other Indian airlines: Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, and SpiceJet.

Sheldon Hee, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific, expressed enthusiasm about Akasa Air’s membership, highlighting India’s vast aviation potential, which supports 7.7 million jobs and contributes USD 53.6 billion to the economy.

Currently operating a fleet of 31 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, Akasa Air serves 26 domestic destinations and six international cities, continuously expanding its reach in key markets. Vinay Dube, the airline’s Founder and CEO, stated that IATA membership will enhance the airline’s global credibility and establish it as a forward-thinking Indian airline on the world stage.

The late investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala significantly supported Akasa Air, investing nearly $35 million for a 40% stake in the company. Recently, the airline has attracted additional investments from prominent institutional investors, including Premji Invest, 360 ONE Asset, and Claypond Capital, further solidifying its financial foundation.

In conclusion, Akasa Air’s membership in IATA marks a significant step in its journey, enhancing its credibility and positioning it for future growth in the competitive aviation landscape.
