NFL legend Brett Favre spoke out on Wednesday regarding the significance of defending President Donald Trump’s executive order that prohibits biological men from participating in women’s sports. Trump signed the order in the East Room of the White House last week, prompting the NCAA to align with this directive. However, some states have resisted the order and are now facing Title IX investigations from the Education Department.
In a video shared on Wednesday, Favre mentioned that his daughters sometimes advise him to reconsider his posts on social media. While he acknowledges the merit in being cautious, he also values the importance of standing up for his beliefs. “I think there’s some good in being quiet. But there’s also an element of standing up for what you believe in,” Favre stated. He expressed disbelief that an executive order was necessary to keep men out of women’s sports, calling it “absolutely insane.”
Favre added, “We’ve bought ourselves some time in the next four years. We’ll see how that plays out. But the common sense part of our country and the decisions being made are becoming more stable and returning to the norm. I believe that the more we advocate for common sense, the better off we’ll be.”
Trump’s executive order grants the federal government the power to penalize federally funded organizations that “deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities.” Following this, the NCAA announced a policy change stating that “a student-athlete assigned male at birth may not compete on a women’s team,” while still allowing biological females to compete on men’s teams. NCAA President Charlie Baker remarked that the executive order established a “clear, national standard.
