Passengers aboard Delta Air Lines Flight 4819 experienced a terrifying landing in Toronto when the aircraft flipped over, leaving the 76 passengers hanging upside down in their seats. Four crew members were also on board during the incident. Fortunately, all 80 individuals survived, although 21 passengers required hospital treatment. The airline confirmed that all those hospitalized have since been released.
In response to the incident, the Atlanta-based airline offered each affected passenger a payout of $30,000. However, WNBA star Angel Reese expressed her dissatisfaction with the amount, posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, “wait that’s it? YEAH NO,” which ignited a wave of reactions on social media, with many urging the airline to provide more support for the passengers.
If all passengers accepted the offer, Delta would face a total payout of approximately $2.3 million. The airline clarified that the offer comes with “no strings attached.” A spokesperson stated that Delta Care Team representatives assured customers that this gesture does not affect their rights. However, details on how the compensation will be distributed remain unclear.
This incident in Toronto is part of a troubling trend in aviation safety. Earlier this year, a military Black Hawk helicopter collided with a commercial flight affiliated with American Airlines near Washington, D.C., resulting in 67 fatalities. Additionally, a twin-engine medevac jet crashed in a Philadelphia neighborhood, claiming the lives of seven people, including a child patient and her mother.
