The Dallas Mavericks faced a stroke of bad luck on Saturday when Anthony Davis, acquired in a surprising trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, sustained a groin injury during the team’s victory over the Houston Rockets. He exited the game early and has been ruled out for Monday’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings.
Reports from ESPN indicate that Davis has a left adductor strain, which could sideline him for several weeks. Despite the injury, the power forward attempted to minimize concerns, stating, “Just the leg got tight, like a little spasm. I just came back and tried to get it loose. Obviously, I’m still dealing with the ab strain, so I tried to loosen it up. It wouldn’t really let go, but it’s nothing serious. I’m fine.”
This injury concern arises amidst the Mavericks’ recent trade involving Luka Doncic, which has left the NBA community and even NFL stars bewildered during Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
Davis, a nine-time All-Star, has played 76 games in the 2023-24 season but has missed at least 20 games in each of the last five seasons. This season, he has averaged 25.7 points, 12 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game in 43 appearances.
