British rapper Ghetts has admitted to causing death through dangerous driving.

**Rapper Ghetts Pleads Guilty to Causing Death by Dangerous Driving**

Rapper Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, has admitted guilt in a case involving death by dangerous driving following a hit-and-run incident. The 41-year-old artist entered his plea during a hearing at the Old Bailey via videolink from Pentonville prison. The tragic event occurred shortly after 11:30 PM on October 18 in Ilford, northeast London, when Ghetts struck 20-year-old Yubin Tamang, a student from Nepal, with his BMW M5. Tamang succumbed to his injuries two days later.

According to police reports, Ghetts was driving at speeds exceeding 60 mph in a 30 mph zone when he collided with Tamang, who was crossing the road. After the incident, he failed to stop and render assistance. In addition to the charge of causing death by dangerous driving, Ghetts also pleaded guilty to driving dangerously in various areas of London, including Tavistock Place, Camden, Islington, and Hackney.

Tamang’s family, who traveled from Nepal to attend the court proceedings, were present to hear the pleas. The court learned that he was an only child studying in the UK. Ghetts, a two-time Mercury Prize nominee and MOBO award winner, has been in custody since his initial court appearance on October 27.

Judge Mark Lucraft KC indicated that a custodial sentence is forthcoming, although the exact duration has yet to be determined. Ghetts was immediately disqualified from driving, with the length of the ban still to be established. Following the hearing, Detective Inspector Mark Braithwaite from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit remarked that while nothing could alleviate the grief of Tamang’s family, the guilty pleas represent “a step towards justice.” He emphasized the severe consequences that can arise from split-second decisions made while driving.

The police later located Ghetts’ damaged BMW parked near his home in Woodford, showing signs of a collision, including a smashed windscreen and extensive damage to the front. On December 4, he faced additional charges of causing death by careless driving while over the alcohol limit, to which he did not enter a plea.

Ghetts received his first Mercury Prize nomination in 2021 for his album “Conflict Of Interest” and was nominated again in 2024 for “On Purpose, With Purpose.” He was also recognized as the best male artist at the MOBO Awards in 2021.
