Brittney Griner shares unsettling details about the crimes committed by her cellmate in a Russian prison, stating, ‘I didn’t really sleep.’

**Brittney Griner Reveals Disturbing Details from Russian Detention**

Brittney Griner has previously shared her experiences in a Russian detention facility, but she recently disclosed shocking details about one of her cellmates during an appearance on Cam Newton’s “Funky Friday” podcast. The WNBA star discussed the harsh realities of incarceration, highlighting that inmates were not segregated by the nature of their crimes. While many were imprisoned for serious offenses like murder or drug-related charges, one of her early cellmates was incarcerated for a particularly heinous reason.

“I had a cellmate in the very beginning. I thought something was off with her,” Griner recounted. “She acted like a child, but she was a grown woman, very much behaving like an adolescent. She had burn marks all over herself, and I later learned she was selling videos online of her husband and child together. That’s who they had me in a cell with.”

Griner noted that the nature of her cellmate’s crimes led to severe mistreatment from other inmates. “There’s not a lot of torturing from inmates with girls on the women’s side,” she explained. “But if you’re in there for something like that, yeah, you’re going to get tortured. They would put their cigarettes out on her and make her sleep at the door.”

Expressing her frustration, Griner mentioned that the lack of separation by crime made her anxious about being associated with her cellmate. “I didn’t really sleep at night because she would be over there singing and doing weird stuff,” she said.

In a previous interview with ABC News’ “Good Morning America,” Griner reflected on her harrowing experience after being detained for carrying vape cartridges at a Russian airport in February 2022 while playing basketball overseas. “I was just so scared,” she admitted, recalling the moment she realized the gravity of her situation. After being sentenced to nine years, she was transferred to a penal colony about 300 miles from Moscow, where she served nearly 10 months before being released in a prisoner exchange.

Describing the conditions in prison, Griner recalled, “The mattress had a huge blood stain on it. I had no soap, no toilet paper. That was the moment where I just felt less than a human.”

Since her return to the United States, Griner has gained a new perspective on life, which was evident during the 2024 Paris Olympics. She expressed her emotions as Team USA secured another gold medal in basketball, stating, “I didn’t think I would be here.”

As Griner continues to navigate her post-incarceration life, her experiences serve as a powerful reminder of resilience and the importance of justice.
