With the Philadelphia Eagles clinching victory in Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs, the festivities are underway. The possibility of a celebration at the White House remains uncertain, as President Donald Trump has not yet issued a formal invitation. Veteran offensive lineman Lane Johnson stated, “I’d be honored to go, regardless of who the president is, but we’ll see. It’s ultimately a team decision. I’ll do what’s best for the team.”
As a team captain, Johnson has dedicated all 12 of his NFL seasons to the Eagles. He recalls the controversy following their Super Bowl win in 2018 against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. At that time, Trump rescinded his invitation to the Eagles after some players expressed they would not attend due to the president’s comments regarding athletes who protested racial injustice and police brutality during the national anthem.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was asked about a potential visit to the White House if the team won, to which he replied, “I just want to win Sunday.” Josh Sweat, who played a pivotal role in the game with 2.5 sacks on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, remarked, “It’s a great honor, but I’m looking forward to this parade more than anything.”
The Eagles are set to hold their championship parade in Philadelphia on Friday.
