Ed McCaffrey won’t be watching his children in the Super Bowl this year, unlike last year when he cheered for his son Christian. However, he made the trip to New Orleans for a meaningful purpose. The three-time Super Bowl champion has teamed up with Colt to promote awareness about responsible gun ownership.
“I’m a proponent of firearm safety. If you choose to exercise your right to own a firearm, it should be done safely and responsibly. That’s why I partnered with Colt,” McCaffrey stated in a recent interview.
Clay Matthews, Fletcher Cox, Adam Vinatieri, and Joe Thomas were nominated for Colt’s Safety Impact Award, with Matthews ultimately winning. McCaffrey expressed his excitement about being part of this initiative alongside NFL legends.
“Many players, including those I’ve coached, own firearms,” the former Denver Bronco noted. “Colorado is a significant hunting and outdoor state. Access to firearms varies by state, but everyone should be properly trained and know how to handle a firearm responsibly if they choose to own one. I believe in responsible ownership, and many might be surprised by how many people possess firearms.”
He emphasized the importance of learning to operate firearms safely, regardless of the reason for ownership, whether for hunting or personal protection. “You owe it to yourself, your friends, and your family to be responsible. That’s why I admire Colt’s efforts; they are dedicated to raising awareness about safe and responsible gun ownership.”
Colt is also offering a $100,000 giveaway if there is a safety during the Super Bowl.
McCaffrey has advice for current and prospective gun owners: “Take a course on gun safety. If you’re a first-time firearm owner, I highly recommend enrolling in a course. Don’t rely solely on tips from friends; be responsible.”
He likened the journey of learning responsible gun ownership to the process of learning football at a young age. “In football, I attended camps and clinics to learn the game. If you’re going to own a firearm, you need to take a course, obtain your license, and thoroughly understand how to operate a firearm properly.
