Grimes has expressed her disapproval of her former partner Elon Musk’s choice to bring their son to a news conference in the Oval Office. The 36-year-old singer, who has had an on-and-off relationship with Musk since 2018, reportedly discovered through social media that he had taken their son, X Æ A-12—commonly referred to as X—to the briefing with Donald Trump on Tuesday.
In response to a comment on X about her son being “very polite,” Grimes remarked, “He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank you for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.” Musk, 53, carried the four-year-old on his shoulders while addressing reporters regarding his position as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
During the event, X stood beside his billionaire father and Trump, at one point seemingly attempting to speak to the president as Musk fielded questions about allegations of orchestrating a “hostile takeover” of the government in a non-transparent manner. As photographers captured the moment, Trump commented, “X, are you okay? This is X, and he is a great guy, high IQ. A high IQ individual.”
The meaning behind X’s name has been previously explained by his parents, breaking it down into its components. “X” signifies the “unknown variable,” “Æ” is the “elven spelling” of “Ai,” which means love in Chinese and is also an acronym for artificial intelligence, while “A-12” refers to their “favorite aircraft.”
X is one of three children that Musk and Grimes share, alongside his younger siblings Exa Dark Sideræl and Techno Mechanicus, known as Tau. Musk is a father to 12 children but tragically lost his firstborn to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) when he was just 10 weeks old.
