‘Inaccurate and deceptive’: Adani Group refutes claims about the cancellation of Sri Lanka’s $440 million power purchase agreement; Here’s the reason.

**Adani Group Refutes Claims of Sri Lanka Power Deal Cancellation**

The Adani Group has firmly rejected claims regarding the cancellation of its power project in Sri Lanka, labeling the reports as ‘false and misleading.’ A spokesperson for the conglomerate, which operates across various sectors including ports and energy, issued a statement on January 24, clarifying that the reports about the cancellation of Adani’s 484 MW wind power projects in Mannar and Pooneryn are inaccurate.

“We categorically state that the project has not been cancelled. The Sri Lankan Cabinet’s decision on January 2, 2025, to reassess the tariff approved in May 2024 is a routine review process, especially with a new government in place, aimed at ensuring that the project terms align with current priorities and energy policies. Adani remains dedicated to investing $1 billion in Sri Lanka’s green energy sector, fostering renewable energy and economic growth,” the statement read.

Earlier reports from a leading Sri Lankan business newspaper indicated that the Cabinet, under President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, had reversed a previous decision to award a contract for the construction of wind power plants in Mannar and Pooneryn to Adani Green Energy SL Ltd. This contract, initially approved in June of the previous year by Dissanayake’s predecessor, Ranil Wickremesinghe, involved the significant 484 MW wind power project.
