Jalen Hurts explains the reason behind his lack of a smile, even with the Eagles enjoying a significant advantage in Super Bowl LIX.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts expressed dissatisfaction despite his team’s commanding victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s Super Bowl. With the Eagles leading 40-6 late in the second half and the Lombardi Trophy nearly secured, Hurts was seen pouting on the sidelines in newly released footage. In the clip, tight end Grant Calcaterra encouraged Hurts to smile, saying, “You can crack a smile, too.”

Hurts explained that he was still affected by his previous Super Bowl loss, where the Eagles were defeated 38-35 by the Chiefs in the 2023 Super Bowl. “I can’t lie to you, bro. The last one changed my soul, man,” Hurts remarked. “This ain’t ever over until the fat lady sings.” He has been open about how that loss has motivated him.

In the summer of 2023, months after the defeat, Hurts shared that the wallpaper on his phone featured a photo of him walking off the field, looking disappointed as confetti fell around him. Before the Super Bowl on Sunday, he revealed during an interview on Fox’s pregame show that he had kept that image as his wallpaper for the two years since the loss.

Even after winning the Super Bowl, Hurts has no intention of changing the wallpaper. “I guess people anticipate me to change it, but it’s just a wallpaper. It’s a humble reminder for me,” Hurts stated in an interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” “It’s gonna remain. There’s no urgency to change it.
