The surviving members of Nirvana delighted fans by reuniting for a concert aimed at raising funds for wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles. The event, held on Thursday night across two venues over five hours, showcased numerous California artists and stars connected to the area, but the Nirvana reunion was the highlight of the night.
Band members Pat Smear, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters took the stage with a lineup of guest female vocalists. Their performance began with St. Vincent as the lead singer, followed by appearances from Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, and Grohl’s daughter, Violet. Instead of playing some of their most famous songs, the group opted for lesser-known tracks, performing “Breed,” “School,” and “Territorial Pissings.” They concluded their set with “All Apologies,” featuring Violet on stage.
The evening commenced with performances by Billie Eilish and Green Day. Actor Billy Crystal welcomed attendees at the Kia Forum, sharing his experience of escaping the recent Pacific Palisades fire while wearing the same clothes from that day. Having lived in the area for 46 years, he spoke movingly about the loss of his home.
The concert also featured performances from artists like Lady Gaga, John Mayer, and Olivia Rodrigo. An hour and a half later, acts began performing at the Intuit Dome, with the online broadcast smoothly transitioning between the two locations.
California native Katy Perry energized the crowd with hits like “Roar” and “California Gurls,” while No Doubt, hailing from nearby Orange County, performed songs including “I’m Just A Girl” and “Don’t Speak.” Dr. Dre made a surprise appearance alongside Anderson .Paak and Sheila E, performing “Still DRE” and the classic “California Love.
