Another professional athlete has fallen victim to a home burglary, as Los Angeles Football Club star Olivier Giroud reported the theft of $500,000 worth of watches earlier this month, according to TMZ. Giroud’s wife, Jennifer, alerted authorities on February 5 after discovering a broken window at their residence. Among the stolen items were ten of Giroud’s watches, which his wife estimated to be worth around $500,000.
As of now, the LAPD has not made any arrests in connection with the burglary and continues to investigate. Giroud joins a list of other athletes, including Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, and Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic, who have also experienced home burglaries in recent months.
In Burrow’s case, three Chilean migrants are facing charges for allegedly breaking into his home after posing for photos with some of the stolen items, including a jeweled necklace inscribed with “JB9” and a diamond “9” necklace, as detailed in a recently filed federal criminal complaint.
The Bengals issued a statement expressing gratitude to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies for their thorough investigation, which led to the indictments. They acknowledged the complexity of the case and reaffirmed their support for law enforcement as the legal process continues.
As for Giroud, he is currently in his first full season with LAFC after joining Major League Soccer midway through the previous season. The French striker has a distinguished career, having played for top European clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and AC Milan. Internationally, Giroud has made a name for himself, scoring four goals during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, including a crucial game-winner against England in the quarterfinals. He was also part of the French team that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
