**Prajwal Revanna Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Rape**

Prajwal Revanna, the former JD(S) MP and grandson of ex-Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 11 lakh for the rape of a 47-year-old domestic worker in Mysuru. The fine will serve as compensation for the survivor. This verdict comes just 14 months after the case was filed, showcasing an expedited trial process.

The case was registered at the Cyber Crime Station of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where Revanna was accused of raping the woman on two separate occasions and recording the incidents. The allegations gained significant attention when explicit videos, allegedly filmed by Revanna, were circulated ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, where he was a BJP candidate from Hassan. In response, Revanna claimed that the videos were morphed and filed a complaint regarding this matter.

The trial began on December 31, 2024, and over the next seven months, the court heard testimonies from 23 witnesses and reviewed critical forensic science laboratory (FSL) reports related to the video evidence, as well as inspection reports from the crime scene. During the investigation, the survivor provided a saree as physical evidence, which she had preserved. Forensic analysis confirmed the presence of sperm on the saree, which was crucial in establishing the case of rape.

The CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Inspector Shobha, gathered 123 pieces of evidence throughout the investigation, culminating in a comprehensive chargesheet that spanned nearly 2,000 pages. Revanna was ultimately convicted under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 376(2)(k) and 376(2)(n), as well as sections 354(A), 354(B), and 354(C).

This case highlights the importance of swift justice in sexual assault cases and the role of forensic evidence in securing convictions.
